A magnet that weighs as much as a loaded box truck, a gantry that can't take a jolt, and a hospital that can't close a hallway for a week. We rig MRI scanners, CT, PET/CT, cath labs, and linear accelerators in and out of occupied facilities — planned with your vendor, monitored the whole way, and set exactly where the room was built for it.
Quick answer: MRI and medical equipment rigging is the specialized moving, installation, and removal of imaging and treatment systems — MRI magnets, CT and PET/CT gantries, cath labs, and linear accelerators. Badass Logistics rigs them nationwide with tilt and shock monitoring, protected paths through occupied hospitals, crane-in and wall-opening access, and close coordination with the OEM installation team.
An MRI magnet runs anywhere from roughly 8,000 to more than 25,000 pounds, sits on a very small footprint, and has tight manufacturer limits on tilt and shock. A CT gantry is lighter but full of alignment you don't want to redo. None of it can be muscled down a corridor on a pallet jack, and all of it usually has to move through a building that's still seeing patients.
That's why MRI moves are planned backward from the room. We walk the path of travel with the facility and the OEM or third-party installer — doorway widths, corridor turns, elevator ratings, floor loading, where a wall opening or a crane pick makes more sense than the front door. Then we build the rigging plan, the schedule, and the protection plan around that, usually for nights or weekends.
On move day the crew rigs from the manufacturer's designated points, moves on skates and air-ride with shock and tilt indicators on the unit, and sets it in the shielded room for the installer to take over. If the system is leaving the building for another site, we manage it as project freight on climate-appropriate, air-ride partner equipment — same crew on both ends.
1.5T and 3T magnets — new installs, relocations between suites, and decommissioned removals.
Gantries, tables, and consoles moved without disturbing the alignment you paid for.
C-arms, ceiling-mounted systems, and support equipment for interventional suites.
Linacs and components rigged into vaults with the tight access those rooms are known for.
Analyzers, sterilizers, freezers, and research instruments that can't take a bump.
End-of-life systems rigged out cleanly so the suite can be rebuilt on schedule.
The hardest part of most MRI jobs isn't the weight — it's the route. Magnets are too heavy for many passenger elevators and too big for many doorways, so the plan often comes down to one of three paths.
When doors, turns, and floors allow it, the magnet travels on skates over steel plate or floor protection, with the corridor closed only for the move window.
Many MRI suites are built with a removable exterior panel. We coordinate the opening with your contractor, rig through it, and hand the wall back.
Rooftop, upper-floor, and landlocked suites often mean a crane pick onto a platform or through an opening — lift plan, street closure, and setting all run as one job.
Hospitals don't shut down for rigging. We schedule around patient flow, protect floors and walls along the entire route, keep ferrous tools out of the magnet's field, and work with facilities, security, and infection-control staff so the move is invisible by morning.
