Machinery Removal & Equipment Decommissioning

Getting an old machine out is often harder than the day it went in. The building grew around it, the door got smaller, and the utilities were never labeled. We rig out retired machines, production lines, and whole plants — disconnected safely, taken apart where it has to be, and removed so the space is ready for what's next.

Quick answer: Machinery removal is the safe disconnection, rigging out, and removal of industrial equipment that is being retired, sold, or replaced — from a single press to a full plant decommissioning. Badass Logistics coordinates lockout with your team, identifies and tags every asset, drains and secures the machine, dismantles what won't fit through the openings, sequences the load-out so nothing blocks the dock, and moves it to a buyer, storage, or recycler depending on whether it's being resold, relocated, or scrapped.

Removal is rigging, not junk hauling

Search for equipment removal and you'll find junk haulers. That works for office furniture. It doesn't work for a 30,000-pound press bolted into a pit, a production line with hydraulic lines running under the floor, or a machine you're selling and need to arrive in one piece. Removing industrial machinery takes the same planning as installing it: real weights, a path of travel that can carry the load, and a crew that knows which bolts to leave alone.

Badass Logistics handles removal as rigging work. We walk the job with your maintenance team, identify every utility connection, and plan the sequence — what comes out first, what has to be split to fit the door, and how to keep the rest of the plant running while it happens. Then our crew rigs it out on jacks, skates, and forklifts, or a crane when the roof or wall is the only way out.

Where the equipment goes next is part of the plan. Machines being sold get prepped or crated and loaded for the buyer. Equipment moving to another site runs as project freight. Scrap goes to a recycler your team approves. Either way, the floor is left ready for the next tenant, the next line, or the landlord walk-through.

What gets planned before removal starts

Most removal accidents come from assumptions: a line everyone thought was dead, a machine heavier than the tag says, a floor that was never rated for the forklift it now needs. Our removal plans settle those first:

DOOR 8'0" — SPLIT IT FLOOR SWEPT ✓ SCRAP OR SELL?

Plant decommissioning, done in order

A plant closure or consolidation usually means dozens of machines with different destinations and a hard lease deadline. Some equipment moves to another facility, some goes to buyers, and some is scrap. We build one sequence for all of it, so buyers' pickups, relocation loads, and scrap removal don't collide on the dock.

When the last machine is out, anchors are cut flush, pits are covered or clearly marked, and the floor is swept — the space is handed back in a condition you can walk a landlord or a buyer through.

Scrap, resale, or relocation — decided per machine

Not every machine on a removal list leaves the building the same way, and mixing that up is how a piece worth reselling ends up on a scrap truck. Before rigging starts, each item on the equipment list gets a destination: resale to a buyer, relocation to another facility, or scrap. That call comes from your team or the dealer handling the sale — we don't make it — but it drives how the machine gets handled.

A machine going to a buyer gets identified, tagged, and handled the way crated equipment is: protected, drained, and loaded so it arrives working, not just out of the building. A machine relocating runs as a plant relocation or project freight load. Scrap gets separated and sent to the recycler your team has approved. Keeping those three streams apart from the first walk-through is what keeps a removal job from turning into a pile in the parking lot.

How a machinery removal runs

  1. Walk the jobEquipment list, connections, weights, destinations, and the building's access limits.
  2. Plan the sequenceLockout, draining, dismantling, rig-out order, and what keeps running nearby.
  3. Disconnect & prepUtilities locked out, fluids drained, and moving parts secured for handling.
  4. Rig outMachines skated, forked, jacked, or craned out — split where the openings demand it.
  5. Ship & clean upLoads sent to buyers, storage, another site, or recycling, and the floor made ready.

Machinery removal FAQ

What does machinery removal include?
Coordinating lockout of utilities, draining fluids, securing and dismantling the equipment where needed, rigging it out of the building, loading it for its next destination, and leaving the floor safe and clean.
Can you remove a machine we sold to a buyer?
Yes. We prep and protect the machine so it arrives working, load it for the buyer's transport or manage the freight as part of the project, and coordinate the pickup date.
What if the machine won't fit through the door?
We split it at factory joints where possible, or plan a route through a wall opening or roof with a crane. The site walk decides which.
Do you handle full plant decommissioning?
Yes — whole-facility equipment removal for closures and consolidations, sequenced around buyers, relocation loads, and scrap so everything is out by the deadline.
Do you disconnect electrical and utilities?
Utility disconnects are done by qualified personnel — your maintenance team or licensed trades. We coordinate the lockout sequence and don't touch the machine until it's verified safe.
Is this a junk removal service?
No. This is industrial rigging for heavy equipment. We don't haul household junk or office clean-outs.
How do you decide what gets scrapped versus resold or relocated?
That call comes from you or the dealer handling the sale, made per machine before removal starts. We keep the three streams separate through disconnect, rigging, and load-out so a machine bound for resale never gets mixed in with scrap.
Do you tag and track equipment during a removal?
Yes. Every machine on the list gets identified, tagged, and logged before it's disconnected, so nothing gets misrouted on a job with multiple destinations.
Does a rigger or a millwright handle the mechanical disconnect?
Our riggers handle the physical disconnect, dismantling, and rig-out. For equipment that needs precision teardown of alignment-sensitive components, our millwright crew handles that scope on the same job.
